Through Music
Visit Website

Located in the second-floor lobby of the Seongnam Arts Center Opera House, the World Instrument Exhibition Hall is composed of three exhibition galleries—Asia and Oceania, North and South America, and Africa and Europe—and one interactive experience room. The hall houses 200 instruments from 49 countries, including string, wind, percussion, and keyboard instruments from all continents, and welcomes visitors to explore its collection.

Among the diverse instruments on display are an African harp made of animal hide and horn, the Bulgarian traditional bagpipe known as the Kaba Gaidas crafted from an entire goatskin, and the virginal, a plucked keyboard instrument popular in England from the late fifteenth to the seventeenth century. A touchscreen monitor at the center of the gallery provides detailed information on each instrument, including descriptions, geographical distribution, maps, performance videos, and cultural and historical context.

As an educational space for understanding world cultures, additional programs are planned to be offered at the exhibition hall, such as tours that combine gallery viewing with an Opera House backstage experience. Group visits are available by advance reservation only. The World Instrument Exhibition Hall was created through a donation of 200 million won from members of the Seongnam Arts Center Sponsorship Committee, led by Chairman Jang Hyung-hwan of Nepes Hi-Tech.
